Celebrate your wedding amongst classical Sculptures and paintings!

The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford has recently become the first museum in Oxford to be issued a civil licence for wedding ceremonies. The neo-classical building in the centre of Oxford now has 2 rooms available for couples looking for that grand venue with a real wow factor!

The Randolph Sculpture Gallery is a beautiful room with stone floors and high ceilings and houses many Roman and Greek sculptures for wedding guests to peruse while enjoying the celebrations.

Wedding Coordinator Vickie Cook of Weddings By Vickie commented “Couples can take their cue from the surroundings and create a classical theme for their day. Imagine brides in flowing fabrics with gold thread and embroidery, large urns of cascading flowers of the time such as ivy, violets and of course roses. Tables with gold charger plates and centrepieces using golden bowls full of fruit and flowers. Why not take advantage of the pillars that frame the entrance to the room and use voiles and fairy lights for that finishing touch. If you really want to embrace the theme you can even hire live painted statues to fool your guests!”

The Mallett Gallery has an Italian 17th Century palazzo feel and houses paintings by artists such as Poussin and Lorrain. It is a dramatic room with red damask walls and chandeliers.

Vickie added “In the Mallett Gallery couples can go for something really decadent and dramatic. Create a baroque feel with luxurious fabrics, embroidery and beading. Pearls and other jewels can be incorporated into the bridal wear, the flowers and other decorations. You could follow Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and serve guests traditional Italian cuisine finishing off with a light and creamy Italian wedding cake. Give your guests some entertainment to remember with a quartet playing classic Baroque music”

With more and more couples looking for that unique venue for their wedding The Ashmolean is sure to become a popular choice.
