Adding a touch of WAG style to your wedding

This June will see the WAG wedding that Hello magazine have been waiting for. Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin are expected to marry in what is rumoured to be a fairly low-key, traditional affair. There are even reports that the couple will be donating a large proportion of their magazine deal fee to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Is it right that WAG weddings are so popular? Do brides just upset themselves by pouring over the details of weddings they dream about but could never have?

Wedding coordinator Vickie Cook from Oxfordshire based company Weddings By Vickie thinks they can be great for ideas, if kept in perspective.

“Not many couples are offered the amount of money footballers and their wives have to spend on their wedding, not to mention free services they get. However aspects of these magical days can be included in the average British wedding. Look at the ideas that appeal to you and make them personal”

When John Terry married Toni Poole at Blenheim Palace last year he brought his own personal touch to the catering. He organised for his favourite local pie shop to provide pie and chips as a menu option! Another choice for guests at their wedding was fish and chips wrapped in newspaper, an idea that could be used by couples as a fun but cost effect alternative to an evening buffet.

Recreating aspects of David and Victoria Beckham’s lavish wedding may not be as easy, not many people would feel as comfortable on gilded thrones! The Beckham’s did put their own slant on the dress code though by asking guests to wear black or white for their big day, something which could be used by British couples to add a little bit of glamour to their celebrations.

So when reading the highlights of Wayne and Coleen’s wedding this summer, Vickie’s message to couples would be:

“Treat it like a designer wedding magazine, pick out the special touches you love, make them your own and you can add a touch of WAG to your wedding”
